Adulting: How to revamp your interiors

Ever wondered what does adulting mean?

Kinfolk suggests that In the '80s, “adulting” was used, according to Merriam-Webster, “as a jocular verbal form of the noun adultery.” By the late aughties, Twitter users had begun to use it in its current incarnation—to describe adults doing the quotidian tasks that adults are expected to do.

The phrase ‘adulting’ gets thrown around a lot but as we get older, we wonder how to become a grown-up, certain things change. Our taste, our surroundings – even us.  We feel this the most when we move into a place of our own for the first time. This is the period where we (finally) feel like we’re growing up – and we want our surroundings to reflect that.

Sleep in style

The days of you throwing old sheets over your windows to make do are long gone – beautiful curtains add depth, elegance and warmth to a room – and give surroundings a colourful Centrepoint.

Buying good quality bedding is the first step in transforming into your true adult self. Don’t be afraid to splurge, your bedroom is your sanctuary, after all!

Don’t forget a coffee table book (or two)

A misconception with coffee table tomes is that they are just there as a hefty paperweight without any substance outside of looking beautiful. This is not the case, some of the best coffee table books are full of insight alongside the incredible imagery and you can find a favourite on any of your passions in life. They also serve as keepsakes and collector’s items – and it doesn’t get more adult than that!

Add more plants

Indoor plants need care and TLC. One of the markers of your transition into adulthood is that you have to care for them, it’s setting priorities outside of yourself. They impact the air, the surroundings and your mental health – as well as lighting up a room when in full bloom. Be sure to visit our sister site House of Planda for all your plant care needs.

Candles, candles and more candles

Candles transform a room, this we can vouch for at VIPASA! Every candle we make is hand-poured and made in small batches in Dublin, Ireland. We have two fragrant scents to choose from and all the ingredients have been sourced keeping sustainability in mind – where we can, we always want to give something back. So your place will smell as gorgeous as it looks (promise).

Remember, you needn’t overthink this too much. As a general rule, a ‘grown-up’ apartment is one that reflects the person or people that live there and is unique to their taste. hope the tips above will help you to make your surroundings feel more like you.
